My fires use less wood and the wood I do use turns to a very fine ash. Follow the directions and WEAR GLOVES I bought this item to try in my fireplace and have been very pleasantly surprised at how effective it really is. If you have a cheap grate with large holes for wood and ash to drop through, this is a cheap and effective solution. Of course other grates are available as well. That said, this product works well.
