Our demonstration images show ideal conditions where each magnet is capable of holding more than we rate them for. For example, the 40-pound hook can hold 50+ pounds vertically on a very thick, smooth, and unpainted piece of steel, but in practical applications 40 pounds is more likely.

Using any magnet on painted, rough, or thin metal will decrease the attraction somewhat. Horizontal applications (like a refrigerator door) will see a dramatic decrease in possible loading because friction becomes the primary opposing force. The underside of each magnetic hook is smooth to prevent scratching the surfaces it adheres to. If you wish to hang heavier objects horizontally on smooth surfaces, then we suggest placing a piece of rubber under the magnet to increase friction.

Overall a good magnet compared to other similar offerings, these four 40 lb magnets from GetExpress were the best price. UPDATE::: At this point, I have bought all three sizes of these magnets from GetXpress, namely the 75lb (2 magnets), the 40 lb (4 magnets) and the 25 lb (5 magnets). and have been very please with each set. I have tried others, but have found these to be just as good if not better than the rest – plus, the price of the GetXpress Magnets was always the best. quite strong and handy but not as strong as rated under typical conditions The magnets are fine . The only issue is the hook piece screws into the magnet but doesn’t tighten up. It freely rotates within the base. This can make removing and placing items awkward as the hook rotates. (A spot of metal epoxy would probably fix this.) It’s an annoyance factor but doesn’t stop them from doing their job.They are also not designed to be decorative or attractive. They have an industrial look.Otherwise strong enough to hold items up to maybe 1/2 pounds…
